The men’s committee are running a Winter League (WL) from November to February. Note that the Winter League (WL) is a sub competition to the normal weekend competition.
Each team will consist of six golfers. A member can enter and play for a maximum of two teams and his weekend score will count towards both teams. Entry is €30 per team (€5pp) and this is ring fenced towards prizes. It is preferred, but not a stipulation, that the majority of a team represents an area, e.g. Craughwell, Loughrea etc and the team should be named accordingly.
Players enter and return a score for the weekend competition. The top three scores from each team will be aggregated to give a score for each round. At the end of the 12 rounds, the four lowest round scores are discounted.
The top eight teams go into the final on the weekend of the end of Feb as per the diary dates. The format for the finals will be published prior to the paly off.
Prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd played teams.
Winter League Rules
The Winter League will be played on the 16 hole single stableford weekend competitions played from November 2015 to February 2016. The weekend events will be played as normal, however, members scores from the weekend will count towards the winter league. A confirmed list of events will be published on the notice board at the commencement of the event.
The only reason that will prevent a Winter League (WL) round from going ahead will be if the course is officially closed and/or the 16 hole single stableford competition is cancelled. The winter league committee may decide to cancel a winter league weekend if insufficient numbers play in the event resulting from inclement weather or delayed morning tee due to frost or fog.
Entry fee is €5 per person. Entry fees will be ring fenced towards prizes awarded.
The following is the provisional list of events;
WL 1: 19th & 20th November 16 Holes Turkey Competition
WL 2: 26th & 27th November 16 Holes Turkey Competition
WL 3: 3rd & 4th December 16 Holes Turkey Competition
WL 4: 10th & 11th December 16 Holes Turkey Competition
WL 5: 7th & 8th January 16 Holes Competition

WL 9: 4th & 5th February 16 Holes Competition
WL 10: 11th & 12th February 16 Holes Competition
WL 11: 18th & 19th February 16 Holes Competition
25th & 26th February 16 Holes Competition Finals
Each team will consist of six golfers. Any club member can be a team captain and select their own team. Additionally, the winter league committee will nominate team captains.
The team captains will represent geographical areas, e.g. Loughrea, Craughwell, Clarinbridge/Kilcolgan, Galway, Kileenadeema/Duniry, Bullaun, Kiltullagh, New Inn etc. The team will consist of (as far as possible) members form that area but this is not a stipulation for entry to the competition. More than one team can represent an area.
The team captains will pick their team and submit to the Winter League Committee with their team name and the entry fee of €30 (€5 pp). Teams should be submitted by the 14th November. A member can enter and play for a maximum of two teams and his weekend score will count towards both teams.
There are up 11 rounds in the competition. The top three scores of each team will be aggregated for each round. At the end of the league each team can discount their two lowest weekend results out of the 11 events (this gives relief to a team that does not have the min 3 returned scores on a particular weekend).
Therefore, if there are 11 events, the total aggregate scores from the best 3 cards from the best 9 rounds will be added together to give a final score for the league. If an event is cancelled then it will be the best 8 round scores that are added together to give a final score. Note that the Winter League is a sub competition to the normal weekend competition. In order for a score to count for the winter league the member must enter the normal weekend competition. Where re-entry is permitted then it will be the single best score from that competitor that will count for the WL. In the event of a tie, the 5th card on the final event will determine the winner and if the teams are still tied then the 6th card will determine the winner.
Winter League Final
The finals will be held on the 25th and 26th February 2012.
The top four teams in the league following the WL11 event will go through to the final. The format for the finals is the same as the previous rounds but with the best four cards from the team of six counting to make an aggregate total score. In the event of a tie, the 5th card will determine the winner and if the teams are still tied then the 6th card will determine the winner.
There will be prizes for the winners and runners up in the Winter League Final.
A player must have played at least 6 of the first 11 rounds or half of the league rounds played to qualify for any prize.
The Winter League Committee will decide all disputes and the decision of the committee will be final.
